🔒 Core Privacy Commitment
Phone Enhancer is designed from the ground up as an offline-first, zero-surveillance utility. We do NOT collect, record, track, transmit, or monetize your personal files, messages, clipboard data, screen content, or browsing history. All utilities function strictly on your device.
1. Core Architecture & Data Principles
Phone Enhancer operates under the following absolute architectural guarantees:
- No User Tracking or Analytics: Phone Enhancer contains NO third-party advertising SDKs, NO Firebase Analytics, and NO user profiling trackers.
- Local SQLite Storage: All user preferences, scheduled quiet hours, and privacy counters are stored exclusively in an isolated Room database on your physical device.
- Zero Account Requirement: You are never asked to create an account, register an email address, or provide any identity credentials.
2. Sensitive Android Permissions & Prominent Disclosures
To provide advanced system utilities without requiring root access, Phone Enhancer requests specific Android platform permissions. In accordance with Google Play Store Policies, we provide full, prominent disclosure of each permission:
2.1 AccessibilityService API Usage

Phone Enhancer utilizes Android's AccessibilityService API (ScreenTextCopierService) with explicit user consent solely for two specific user-facing capabilities:
- Select Anything (On-Screen OCR Text Copier): When explicitly invoked by the user via the Quick Settings tile or in-app action, the service temporarily inspects on-screen accessibility text nodes (
rootInActiveWindow) in the active foreground window to allow users to select and copy text from apps that disable text selection (such as social media captions, video descriptions, and feeds). - Per-App Screen Orientation Lock: When enabled, the service monitors window state transitions (
TYPE_WINDOW_STATE_CHANGED) solely to detect when a user-configured app enters the foreground, in order to automatically enforce the user's preferred orientation (Portrait or Landscape) and restore the default orientation upon returning to the home screen.
2.2 Notification Listener Service (BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICE)
Used solely for the Notification Later & Quiet Hours utility. When enabled, Phone Enhancer intercepts non-critical notifications during user-scheduled sleep or focus intervals, holding them in an on-device digest to protect user focus.
All batched notification metadata is saved strictly in the on-device Room SQLite database. Notification contents are never analyzed, shared with third parties, or uploaded off the device. Users can release and view their digest at any time with one tap.
2.3 System Alert Window (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW)
Used solely to draw the Extra Dim translucent low-light alpha filter over the screen to reduce display brightness below the hardware backlight minimum for night reading, and to display a non-interactive countdown HUD pill prior to delayed OCR capture. This overlay collects zero user touch input or screen interaction data.
2.4 Modify Audio Settings (MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS)
Used for: (1) The Hardware Sensor Shield, toggling the microphone input hardware stream via AudioManager.setMicrophoneMute(true); and (2) The Bluetooth Disconnect Silencer, instantly muting media volume when wireless headphones disconnect. Phone Enhancer does NOT record, stream, or store any microphone audio.
2.5 Foreground Services (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE)
Phone Enhancer utilizes foreground services with prominent user-visible status bar notifications strictly for user-requested operations that must persist across app lifecycles:
- Battery Health Alarm: Monitoring charging state to sound user-configured high/low battery cutoff alerts.
- Live Network Speed Monitor: Displaying real-time download and upload bitrate in the status bar (auto-pauses during screen off).
- Clipboard Auto-Wipe Guard: Running the user-configured countdown to overwrite and purge sensitive clipboard contents.
- Timed Flashlight & Screen Timeout: Managing the automatic cutoff countdown timers.
2.6 Camera Flashlight Access (FLASHLIGHT & CAMERA)
Used solely for the Timed Flashlight feature via Android's CameraManager.setTorchMode(). Phone Enhancer does NOT open camera image sensors, does NOT take photographs, and does NOT record video.
3. Community Feature Wishlist API
Phone Enhancer connects to a serverless Cloudflare Workers API (betterandroid-wishlist-api.betterandroid-wishlist-api.workers.dev) solely to power the Community Feature Wishlist.
When proposing or upvoting tool suggestions, only the proposal text and an anonymous randomized voter identifier are transmitted. We do NOT collect or transmit IMEI numbers, Google Advertising IDs, IP address logs, device hardware serials, or user identity records.
4. Data Retention & User Control
Because all data is stored exclusively on your physical device:
- You can clear all settings, privacy scores, and batched notification items at any time by clearing application storage in Android Settings → Apps → Phone Enhancer → Clear Storage.
- Uninstalling the application permanently and irreversibly purges 100% of local databases from your device.
5. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR)
Phone Enhancer does not knowingly collect or solicit any personal information from children under the age of 13. Since no personal data is collected or transmitted from any user, our services fully comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
